“Not the France I Imagined”
Housing, Health, and Education for Unaccompanied Migrant Children in Marseille
General elections in 2022 saw historic gains for the far-right who promote an anti-rights agenda. The impact of inflation on the most vulnerable, in particular their ability to realize basic economic and social human rights is a concern. While people fleeing Ukraine receive significant help, migrants and asylum seekers from other crisis and conflicts face inhumane living conditions and police abuse. Unaccompanied migrant children are often deprived of services and protection they are entitled to. Racist violence and discrimination remain a concern. Police subject minoritized young people to discriminatory identity checks. A law against “separatism” threatens freedom of association. Reproductive rights have seen significant progress but deaths of women due to domestic violence increased.
