César Muñoz

César Muñoz is Americas associate director at Human Rights Watch. He has produced reports, videos, and op-eds on human rights abuses linked to illegal deforestation, police abuses, inhumane prison conditions, misuse of the judicial system to persecute political opponents, and unchecked domestic violence, among other issues, in several Latin American and Caribbean countries. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch as Brazil senior researcher in late 2014, he worked for Agencia EFE, the largest Spanish-language newswire in the world, first as Washington correspondent and later as Bureau Chief in Ecuador, Paraguay, and Brazil. He also worked as a journalist for CNN, Europa Press TV, and other media outlets in the United States and Spain, where he was born. As a Bloomberg Fellow in 2001/2002 he produced Human Right Watch’s first report on US counterterrorism policy after the 9/11 attacks. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University.
