Almaz Teffera

Almaz Teffera, researcher on racism in Europe, works on the human rights implications of racism and discrimination based on racial, ethnic, or religious identity in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

At Human Rights Watch, Almaz worked as an Asia researcher as well as an advocate at Human Rights Watch’s Germany office. Throughout her professional career, she worked on rights situations in Asia and Europe with local, regional and international rights groups such as Amnesty International, the European Council on Refugees and Exiles, The AIRE Centre, and UK charity Liberty. She also worked at the International Criminal Court and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia seeking to prosecute those most responsible for international crimes. Almaz has worked as a caseworker and advocate for refugees, asylum seekers, and third-country nationals in European countries and at the EU level.

Almaz holds an LL.M from the Geneva Academy for International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law as well as an LL.B and LL.M from Maastricht University.

She is based in Berlin, and she speaks German, English, French, and Spanish.
